Apple TV runs tvOS, a closed platform where every app comes from the App Store — there's no "Downloader" workaround or unknown-sources toggle like on Fire TV or Android TV. That doesn't mean IPTV is off the table, but it does mean the setup path looks a little different. Here's what actually works.
Why Apple TV Setup Is Different from Fire TV or Android
On Fire TV and Android TV, you can sideload an APK from almost anywhere. tvOS doesn't allow that at all — every app has to come through the App Store and pass Apple's review process. In practice this means your options are: find a compatible player already on the App Store, or stream from another Apple device and send the picture to your Apple TV instead of installing anything on it directly.
Option 1: Installing a Player from the App Store
Open the App Store app on your Apple TV and search for a general-purpose media player — VLC, for example, has an official tvOS version that can open a network stream directly from a playlist URL. Multi-purpose IPTV player apps also appear on the App Store from time to time, though availability shifts as Apple's review policies change. Once installed, the setup itself is the same as on any other platform: open the app and enter your playlist link or Xtream Codes login when prompted.
Option 2: AirPlay from an iPhone, iPad or Mac
If you'd rather not hunt for a tvOS-specific app, run your IPTV player on an iPhone, iPad or Mac instead and send the picture to your Apple TV with AirPlay — tap the AirPlay icon in the player (or in Control Center) and select your Apple TV as the output. This is often the simplest route if you've already set up IPTV on your iPhone or iPad, since there's nothing new to configure on the TV side at all.

Whichever route you take, you'll need to type a playlist URL or an Xtream Codes server address, username and password once. The Siri Remote's on-screen keyboard is genuinely painful for long URLs.

Two things make this easier: the Apple TV Remote widget on a paired iPhone lets you type using your phone's keyboard instead of the remote, and a Bluetooth keyboard will pair with an Apple TV like any other Bluetooth accessory. Either is considerably faster than clicking through an on-screen keyboard one letter at a time.

App Disappeared from the App Store
Apple's review policies for third-party streaming players can change, occasionally removing an app that was previously available. If an app vanishes, an already-installed copy on your Apple TV usually keeps working — the AirPlay route is the reliable fallback if you ever need to reinstall and it's gone.
Buffering Happens Only When Using AirPlay
AirPlay adds an extra step — your iPhone or Mac decodes the stream and re-transmits it to the Apple TV — which adds overhead a native app doesn't have.
